We’re Headed to Tomales Bay
Posted: February 24, 2016
An idyllic destination, Tomales Bay brings together the best in nature with top-notch food choices. Our team shares their favorite spots. It’s a quick trip over to the Coast from the Napa Valley, just north of Stinson Beach and Bolinas, and is easy to do as a day trip or a full weekend getaway. Our picks to help you fill up your itinerary:
Eat & Drink
The Marshall Store – a lesser known spot to Hog Island down the road, this is the new go to spot for great local oysters. Order oysters and chowder, and sit outside at the casual roadside bar that also looks onto the Bay.
Bovine Bakery – the blackberry scone is divine.
Marin Sun Farms Butcher Shop & Restaurant – they take the meat you buy and serve it up for you, restaurant style.
Saltwater Oyster Depot – the rustic dishes are a welcome palate break from all the oysters, and they have a great regional wine list (and wine tap!)
Sir & Star – always nice to have a high end, experiential dining option in an otherwise laidback coastal town. The décor is super unusual and interesting, and the menu is so whimsical – such a great and entertaining read!
Frolic
Limantour Beach – quiet with expansive sand and gorgeous dunes. Great spot for a picnic and access from parking lot is short and easy for carrying all your supplies.
Dillon Beach – you’ll think you’re headed away from the action, but be patient and you’ll be rewarded with another great view and picnic spot.
Chicken Ranch Beach – a beach option bayside, vs the ocean, that’s perfect for kiddos and dogs. A great place to launch a kayak too.
Rest
Manka’s – if you have the time and the money, this is the spot to lay your head. They also operate Sir & Star restaurant.
Nick’s Cove Cottages – sitting atop the bay, these cozy, quaint and well-appointed cottages are a perfect getaway (and convenient, short walk to the neighboring restaurant).
