Antonio Galloni of Vinous recently published his article on “Napa Valley’s Extraordinary 2016 Cabernet Sauvignons,” and we are honored to be considered among the best in the Napa Valley.
Join us in our bliss as we celebrate Galloni’s reviews of our distinguished 2016 Vintage wines.
Praise for 2016 Turnbull by Antonio Galloni of Vinous
2016 Turnbull Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Leopoldina Vineyard – 95 points
“The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Leopoldina Vineyard is a powerful, voluptuous wine. Dark cherry, cedar, licorice, rose petal and spice are beautifully layered in a full-throttle wine loaded with personality. Even with all of its obvious intensity, the 2016 has quite a bit of freshness and lift to play off the distinctly red-fruit leaning profile. The Leopoldina is super-concentrated, but never overly heavy. The Leopoldina Cabernet emerges from Turnbull’s Weitz Vineyard in Oakville.”
fall 2019 release.
2016 Turnbull Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Fortuna Vineyard – 94 points
“The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Fortuna Vineyard is one of the more alluring wines in Turnbull’s range. Dark red fruit, floral notes and silky tannins give the Fortuna its distinctive mid-weight, sensual personality. Rose petal, spice and star anise add aromatic top notes to this pretty, exquisitely layered Cabernet Sauvignon. All the elements are impeccably balanced. There is so much to like in the Fortuna, a wine that is inviting from the very first taste.”
spring 2019 release.
2016 Turnbull Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Amoenus Vineyard – 94 points
“The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Amoenus Vineyard is one of the more overtly potent wines in this range. Black cherry, tobacco, leather, smoke and licorice add to the wine’s virile feel. The raw power and intensity of Calistoga come through loud and clear in this explosive, dense Cabernet Sauvignon.”
summer 2019 release.
2016 Turnbull Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Reserve – 94 points
“The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Reserve is another stellar wine in this range. Aside from being absolutely delicious, the Reserve offers superb quality for the money, especially by Napa Valley standards. Black cherry, chocolate, leather, smoke, spice and menthol are all generous in the glass, with the textural breadth that is such a signature of Eastern Oakville very much on display. This ample, inviting Cabernet will drink well with minimal cellaring. Fruit sources are Weitz and Fortuna.”
spring 2019 release.
2016 Turnbull Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Black Label – 97 points
“A big, huge wine, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Black Label shows the more exotic personality of the year. Super-ripe dark cherry, plum, new leather, licorice and sweet spice notes build as this flamboyantly ripe wine shows off its personality. Readers should expect a full throttle, intense wine built on pure power. Blackberry jam, chocolate, spice, new leather and new oak gain volume in this striking, explosive wine from Turnbull.”
limited, one-week pre-release available.
2016 Turnbull Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Pierra – 97 points
“The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Pierra emerges from a single parcel of densely planted meter by meter vines on a 45 degree slope at the top of Turnbull’s Leopoldina Vineyard. Dense, plush and inviting, the 2016 possesses tremendous depth and textural richness in every dimension. Even with all of its intensity, the Pierra retains considerable detail and nuance. The hillside vineyards in Eastern Oakville are some of the best spots for growing Cabernet Sauvignon in Napa Valley, as the Pierra (and other wines in this range) make abundantly clear.”
current release available.
2016 Turnbull Wine Cellars Oakville Petit Verdot – 93 points
“The 2016 Petit Verdot is a one-off wine made from three blocks within Weitz. Ample, full-bodied and super-distinctive, the 2016 packs a serious punch. Black cherry, plum, sage, tobacco, crème de cassis and sage fill out the wine nicely. I very much like the energy here.”
