Another Perfect Score For Turnbull: 100 Points and High Praise from Antonio Galloni
Posted: January 21, 2020
Antonio Galloni of Vinous recently published his review of the 2017 Vintage in his article, “2017 & 2018 Napa Valley In Depth,“ and we are honored to be considered among the best in the Napa Valley.
Among the high praise we received for our 2017 Vintage wines, we received a perfect, 100-point score for our 2017 Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon. This “pinch me” moment has us humbled and honored, to say the least.
We could not be more proud of our exceptional vineyards, our phenomenal wines, and most importantly, the entire Turnbull team who makes it all happen; from the cellar to the front of house, a lot of work from every side of the business goes into a 100-point, perfect wine.
We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to share these wines with you, and thank you for your continued support of our small, estate-grown and independently-owned brand over the last forty years. Join us in our bliss as we celebrate Galloni’s reviews of our distinguished 2017 Vintage wines, the highlights of which include:
2017 Turnbull Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Leopoldina Vineyard – 96 points
“The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Leopoldina Vineyard is powerful and heady, with all of the intensity that is typical of this site on the eastern hills of Oakville. Dark, savory and powerful, the 2017 has so much to offer. The balance of intense dark fruit and muscular tannins makes for an absolutely compelling Cabernet.“

2017 Turnbull Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Fortuna Vineyard – 94 points
“The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Fortuna Vineyard captures all the best qualities of this site. Ripe, flashy and opulent to the core, the 2017 is a fabulous example of Oakville Cabernet. Super-ripe red cherry, plum, rose petal, mint and spice are some of the many notes that emerge from the glass. Although note the most complex wine in the range, the 2017 is immensely delicious and very easy to drink.“

2017 Turnbull Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Amoenus Vineyard – 97 points
“The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Amoenus Vineyard is a big, powerful, brawny Calistoga Cabernet. Black cherry, grilled herbs, leather, menthol, licorice and cured meats give the 2017 striking aromatic nuance to play off a core of huge black fruit. Big, muscular tannins frame this decidedly virile, potent Cabernet Sauvignon. This is an especially rich, masculine wine. It is also the only pure Cabernet in the Turnbull range.”

2017 Turnbull Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Reserve – 96 points
“The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Reserve is another dazzling wine that overdelivers for its price point. Rich and sumptuous, the 2017 possesses off-the-charts richness and intensity. Black cherry, plum, new leather, licorice, spice and cedar are all fused together in this dazzling, opulent Cabernet Sauvignon; all the elements meld together in an effortless, flamboyant wine. This is a total pleasure bomb – for its quality and price, there is no question: the Reserve is the wine to buy at Turnbull.”

2017 Turnbull Wine Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Black Label – 100 points
“Peter Heitz made one of the wines of the vintage with Turnbull’s 2017 Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon. Dark, sumptuous and racy to the core, the Black Label captures all the best the vintage had to offer. Plush and juicy, with silky tannins and exceptional balance, the 2017 is another positively stellar wine. This is an outrageously beautiful Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon.”

2017 Turnbull Wine Cellars Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon – 93 points
“Turnbull’s 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is absolutely gorgeous. Ripe, bold and plummy, with bright floral overtones and succulent red berry and plum fruit, the 2017 is a positively stellar wine. Best of all, it is a screaming value by the standards of Napa Valley Cabernet. Is there a better Napa Valley Cabernet made from estate fruit for $50 a bottle? I doubt it.”

2017 Turnbull Wine Cellars Cabernet Franc – 95 points
“The 2017 Cabernet Franc is a rich, hedonistic wine. Soaring aromatics and plush, dense fruit give the 2017 tons of pure, explosive richness. Succulent dark cherry, plum, leather, cedar, smoke and espresso are some of the many notes that soar out of the glass. Warm, rich and enveloping, the 2017 is going to be very easy to drink with minimal cellaring. This is a decidedly forward, ripe style, but it works beautifully.”
