Posted: January 9, 2024
Jeb Dunnuck recommended six wines from recently reviewed 2021 vintage, and we are thrilled to share his exceptional reviews with our Turnbull family and wine enthusiasts alike.
We are truly honored to receive such high praise across the board from an industry giant like Mr. Dunnuck. Of his many points of praise, we’re especially proud to read Jeb’s review of the “stunning” 2021 Black Label (97+ Points), writing that is “majestic” and “has so much to love,” while the 2021 Fortuna Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (97+ Points) is “another jaw dropping good release,” adding that the 2021 Amoenus Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon (96 Points) “is another brilliant 2021 from this estate that readers will love.”
We could go on and on, but we’ll let you read the reviews for yourselves:
2021 Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon – 97+ Points
“Stunning stuff, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Black Label offers a full-bodied, deep, majestic style as well as beautiful aromatics of cr me de cassis, violets, flowers, and nicely integrated background oak. It has ultra-fine tannins, flawless balance, and a regal, age-worthy style that has so much to love. It, however, is not going to be for the instant gratification crowd and this actually shut down pretty quickly with air. I would hide bottle for 4-6 years and it s going to cruise over the following two decades in cold cellars.”
2021 Fortuna Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon – 97+ Points
“Another jaw dropping good release, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Fortuna Vineyard comes from a site in Oakville and it s loaded with ripe black fruits, black olive, graphite, and smoked herb like aromas and flavors. This rich, concentrated, full-bodied effort has plenty of tannins, a great mid-palate, and the class to drink and evolve gracefully for two decades. I love it.”
2021 Amoenus Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon – 96 Points
“Coming from a site in Calistoga, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Amoenus Vineyard is another brilliant 2021 from this estate that readers will love. Black raspberries, blackberries, chocolate, crushed herbs, and a touch of iron define the aromatics and it has full-bodied richness, ripe tannins, and a savory, length, classic Calistoga, mineral-drenched style on the palate. Give it a few years.”
2021 Leopoldina Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon – 96 Points
“Dense purple hued, the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Leopoldina Vineyard comes from a site in Oakville and has a brilliant perfume of cassis and ripe black fruits, interwoven with plenty of tobacco, espresso, and graphite-like nuances. It s full-bodied, concentrated, has ripe tannins, and a great finish. It s another killer wine from this team and it competes with wines 2-3 times its price. Give bottles a few years and enjoy over the following 15+.”
2021 Oakville Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon – 96 Points
“The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Reserve is softer and more upfront compared to the Black Label, offering a terrific perfume of cassis and black raspberry fruits supported by spicy oak and violets. It too is perfectly balanced, has full-bodied richness, and tons of character. Drink bottles anytime over the coming 15 years.”
2021 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon – 94 Points
“The appellation 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is a killer value that should be snatched up by readers. Ripe black fruits, roasted herbs, chocolate, and some spicy wood define the bouquet and it s full-bodied, has fine tannins, a glossy, layered texture, and outstanding length. It certainly has a modern edge, but is impeccably made. Enjoy bottles over the coming decade.”
